AR Rahman's Wife Saira Banu Announce Separation After 29 Years of Marriage, Cites Following Reason
Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have announced their separation after nearly three decades of marriage. The news was confirmed by Saira Banu through an official statement released on Tuesday night.

In a statement shared with India Today, Saira Banu said, "After many years of marriage, I have made the painful decision to separate from my husband, AR Rahman. This decision comes after enduring emotional strain over time. Despite our deep love for each other, the tensions and challenges in our relationship have created a gap too wide to bridge at this stage."

She further added, "This decision was made with immense pain and agony. I request privacy and understanding from the public as I navigate through this difficult phase of my life."

AR Rahman and Saira Banu were married in 1995 in an arranged marriage. In a previous interview on Simi Garewal’s talk show, Rahman shared that it was his mother who arranged the marriage, as he was too focused on his burgeoning music career to seek a bride himself.

"I didn’t have the time to look for a bride. I was caught up with projects like Rangeela in Bombay. I was 29 and told my mother to find me a wife," Rahman revealed. He added that he asked his mother to find a "simple" woman who would not "disturb" his work, and one who could inspire him.

The couple has three children together—two daughters, Khatija and Rahima, and a son, Ameen Rahman.
