Dia Mirza Addresses Bollywood's Ageism Game!

2018 saw a lot of women speak up for themselves and the #MeToo movement made a statement that women today are strong, independent and will stand for what's right. An actor who has always championed the right causes and has lent her voice every time society needed her is Dia Mirza. Having been in Bollywood for 18 years now, Dia has carved a niche for herself and stands proud as a woman of substance. At a recent interview on Women's Day, she addressed the much needed age game of Bollywood. Constantly shoved under the carpet, Dia spoke up about being at the awkward age as a woman and the unsaid age filter that applies to opportunities for women in the entertainment industry. 

She said, "In the entertainment business, I find myself to battle the age perception. Two aspects to it - one since I started young, people think I am older simply because I have been around for a while. The second one is that I have I am seen to be at an age where I am not young to be cast alongside male actors who happen to my age. At the same time I am not mature enough to play older female characters. It's an age conundrum."

Although B town is definitely moving towards more women oriented films and roles, it is a long way before we can say that opportunities are equal for men and women. Striving her way through this unequal system, Dia Mirza balances multiple roles of an actor, producer, environmentalist and philanthropist. Kudos to her!
