Shakuntala Devi was renowned as 'The Human Calculator' because of her exceptional abilities to solve complex mathematic problems within a matter of seconds. She was a top-notch educator who dedicated herself to making mathematics easier for students. Her life-story and marvelous achievements will be paid tribute to in Amazon Prime Video's upcoming biographical film titled 'Shakuntala Devi'.
The mathematician and the educator didn't have any formal education and yet she holds the Guinness book record of being a 'human calculator', till this date. She baffled and boggled several minds, starting out by demonstrating her extra-ordinary arithmetic abilities at the University of Mysore.
Shakuntala Devi traveled the world exhibiting her exemplary ability to calculate complex mathematical problems quickly which even included a tour of Europe in 1950 and a performance in New York City in 1976. In 1988, she even traveled to the US to have her abilities studied by a professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley as that's how astounding her abilities were!
The upcoming film 'Shakuntala Devi' is directed by Anu Menon and produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Vikram Malhotra. The film stars Vidya Balan in the lead along with the stellar cast of Jisshu Sengupta, Sanya Malhotra, and Amit Sadh. The film will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from this 31st of July so make sure to catch it!
