FryDay Review: Govinda Shines But Does Not Manage To Save This Poorly Crafted Film!
Starring : Govinda, Varun Sharma
Directed By : Abhishek Dogra
2/5 Stars
What seems like the sole shining factor in this comedy venture is that it sees the spectacular comeback of Govinda and how. We see the actor in his most passionate form which almost makes us nostalgic but we wish this poorly crafted film was worthy of his much awaited comeback. The plot welcomes you to a comedy of errors which occurs when Rajeev ( Varun Sharma) gets entangled in the life of Gagan (Govinda) a theatre actor and an active adulterer.

There are some hilarious one liners and slapstick dialogues which bring some relief. Govinda's entry scene in the form of a play and his banter with Varun Sharma in some scenes is extremely hilarious. Govinda steals the show with some clap worthy dialogues and also has put on some major dancing shoes on after a long time. But even though in majority of the scenes, even though the comic element is mediocre, Govinda's effortless delivery of the scene makes it all the more applause worthy.

But the half baked effort behind the film is clearly visible. The direction by Abhishekh Dogra and the screenplay by Manu Rishi Chadha seems tedious and uneventful. The narrative has several loopholes and is wearisome. The storyline only takes pace once Govinda paves the way for the story to set in motion and only actor Brijendra Kala manages to create a favorable impact through his performance. The music fails to impress favorably and the background scores are all the more nonsensical and over animated.

But the most unfavorable element is the animated and crass caricature of adultery. It has immense objectification of humorless infidelity and obejectification of women. Talking about the performance, Govinda breathes life into the film and steals the show, Varun Sharma is entertaining but tries hard in some scenes. Digangana Suryavanshi looks pretty but fails to create an impact with her performance while Prabhleen Sandhu has a natural screen presence but does not have much to offer. Even talented actors like Sudhir Mishra and Rajesh Sharma fail to create a favorable impact. Only Brijendra Kala stands out next to Govinda's crackling screen presence in this one.

Fryday is worth watching only to witness that spectacular aura of Govinda but otherwise is an over the top humorless drag output.
