Kartik Aaryan's Aashiqui 3 Postponed as Triptii Dimri Walks Out: Here's All You Need to Know!
Posted on 07 Jan, 2025

Kartik Aaryan's highly anticipated romantic drama, Aashiqui 3, has been indefinitely postponed due to a title-related dispute. The much-awaited project is the third installment in the Aashiqui franchise. Announced over two years ago with Anurag Basu as director, the film gained further attention when Triptii Dimri was cast as the female lead. However, recent reports suggest that Triptii has exited the project. Additionally, Anurag Basu is reportedly planning to direct a different love story featuring Aaryan as the lead.
Triptii, who was previously "excited" about starring in Aashiqui 3, has left the project for reasons yet unknown. A source close to Mid-Day revealed, "Triptii was excited to headline the romance, but that's not going to happen now. Aashiqui 3 is undergoing a title-related dispute and has been postponed indefinitely." Following her exit, the makers have started searching for a new female lead. Reports indicate that the casting process is underway, and an official announcement will be made once the female lead is finalized.
The delay is also attributed to disagreements between the producers over the film’s title. Initially, the project was to be co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt, but differences between the two stalled production discussions, leaving the project in limbo. In March 2024, Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of T-Series, announced that he would back Anurag Basu's project independently, renaming it Tu Aashiqui Hai to distinguish it from the Aashiqui franchise.
However, according to a Mid-Day report, Kartik Aaryan was eager to restore the project under the Aashiqui franchise. With Aashiqui 3 shelved for now, Aaryan and Basu have decided to move forward with another, as-yet-untitled love story, also being produced by Bhushan Kumar. An insider told Mid-Day, "All three of them were keen to collaborate, and they found the perfect opportunity in this love story. The film is set to roll later this month or in the first week of February in Mumbai." Reportedly, Aaryan attempted to mediate between the producers to resolve their differences, but his efforts were unsuccessful.
In a bid to establish the project outside the established Aashiqui brand, T-Series renamed the film Tu Aashiqui Hai. However, Vishesh Films, which owns the Aashiqui brand, challenged this in court. In September 2024, the Delhi High Court ruled in favor of Vishesh Films, restraining T-Series from using the word "Aashiqui" in their movies.
The second installment of the Aashiqui franchise, Aashiqui 2, was released in 2013. The romantic-musical, led by Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, was a blockbuster and remains a beloved film in the genre.
