Posted on 24 Sep, 2024

Kiran Rao’s directorial Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India's official entry for the 2025 Oscars. Presented by Jio Studios, this rural drama has garnered widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences. The Film Federation of India (FFI) confirmed its selection, noting that Laapataa Ladies beat 29 other contenders to represent the country at the 97th Academy Awards in March next year.
Produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, the film tells the comedic story of two young brides who are accidentally separated on a train, leading to a series of misadventures. Starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Ravi Kishan, it has resonated with viewers globally, especially after its extended theatrical run and OTT success.
Jyoti Deshpande, President of Media and Content at RIL, expressed her excitement, stating, “Laapataa Ladies being chosen is a testament to our commitment to showcasing India’s talent globally. The film has already garnered immense love worldwide, and we will continue to support its journey to the Oscars.”
The film is produced under Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, with a script based on Biplab Goswami's award-winning story and dialogues by Sneha Desai and Divyanidhi Sharma.
