Dakota Johnson Unpacks the Layers of Lucy in Upcoming Rom-Com Materialists

In the upcoming romantic comedy Materialists, directed by Celine Song, Dakota Johnson steps into the shoes of Lucy, a sharp-witted, modern-day matchmaker entangled in a whirlwind of love and ambition. The film charts her emotional journey as she finds herself caught between her charismatic ex, played by Chris Evans, and a mysterious new flame portrayed by Pedro Pascal.

As the film garners buzz ahead of its global release, Dakota has been candid about what drew her to the complex lead role and the emotional intricacies she had the chance to unpack on screen.

“After I read the script, I was immediately enticed by the layered inscrutability I saw in Lucy. I was drawn to the role because it’s so complex. Lucy has so many different dynamics in the film, so there’s many different Lucys. She’s a bit of a different person with every other character, she’s sort of a chameleon in that way. And then you’re wondering which of her is the truth, which I thought was just so fun to play with.”

With its intriguing character arcs, a compelling narrative, and a powerhouse cast, Materialists offers a fresh and thoughtful spin on contemporary romance one that promises laughter, introspection, and plenty of surprises.

Materialists is set to hit theatres across India on June 13th, courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
