Simmba Movie Review: A Full On Entertaining Potboiler With Intense Performances And Whistle Snatching Dialogues With The Visual Delight Called Ranveer Singh!

Directed By: Rohit Shetty
3.5/ 5 Stars
Just like the protagnist, Sangram Bhalerao we were too wanting to cheer, 'Mind is blowing' through this film. Sangram Bhalerao aka Simmba lives for money. He is not your quintessential cop who is doing his duty. Ranveer Singh steals the show as this corrupt and sly cop in this massy potboiler. He rightfully grabs your attention with the first scene itself. His effortless crackling sleazy dialogue delivery in the Marathi accent will leave you bursting with laughter. The film develops a serious pace in the second half where we see the intensified emotions of Simmba. But Ranveer Singh is the guiding anchor of the film, whether in the entertaining first half or the gritty second half.

Sara Ali Khan as Simmba's love interest too had a fair amount of her beautiful and bold screen presence in the film but mainly in the  first half. Her chemistry with Ranveer Singh could have been more effortless but the actress delivers a confident act in this one, being just her second film. Ranveer's cameraderie with the other supporting actors especially the very natural and effortless Ashutosh Rana is a delight to watch.

The film has several elements of a Rohit Shetty film. Sangram Bhalerao was your quintessential and quirky Rohit Shetty massy hero. There are action oriented scenes with some inevitable vehicle chasing on the streets of Goa and some stereotyped 'innocent citizens being wronged by the powerful and notorious goons' concept but they seem entertaining due to the larger than life portrayal of all the characters. Then there comes your main antagonist who is truly menacing. Sonu Sood aces his negative act flawlessly as the dashing but devilish Durva Ranade. Here is an antagonist who had some close familial ties too inspite of being in the wrong side of the law.

The film accomplishes its mission of truly entertaining the masses and snatching some serious whistles. Even though a remake, the track 'Aankh Marey' is a catchy paisa-vasool dance number while the song 'Tere Bin' is melodious and a pleasure to watch due to its visual appeal. The track 'Aala Re Aala' is fully dedicated to the swag of Ranveer Singh as Simmba.

One of the highlights is the blockbuster entry of Ajay Devgn who has a power packed cameo as Singham and a surprise element in the form of Akshay Kumar. These high moments compensate for the over dramatic moments post interval.

The second half deals enormously on the issue of women safety and prevention of rape which comes across as too moralistic at times. The whole aspect becomes too preachy and thus predictable.

But watch this one for experiencing a truly entertaining act by Rohit Shetty. It will keep you engaged and amused for the whole duration, thus serving its purpose. Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh make way for a blockbuster combo. Rohit Shetty also unveils his upcoming venture by the end of the film by a cameo of a superstar which we already mentioned above, keep guessing which one!
