This Is What Deepika Padukone Has To Say On Swara Bhasker's Criticism On Padmaavat!
If there's one thing that's generated the maximum number of headlines in the past couple of months, it has to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali's newest film,Padmaavat. From battling the Karni Sena goons to battling the CBFC for certification, the film has fought long and hard to get a theatrical release. But even after it finally hit theatres, troubles for Padmaavat are far from over with many people thrashing it for being regressive and glorifying the unfortunate practice of jauhar.
Recently, actor Swara Bhaskar called out the film's director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in an open letter, saying "your act of thoughtlessly glorifying this misogynistic criminal practice is something you ought to answer for, Sir."

When Deepika was asked about her take on the same, the actor said, "she probably missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the film."
"You probably went out to buy some popcorn and missed the initial disclaimers that come out," Deepika was quoted as saying to a leading daily.

Padmaavat, which released amid violent protests on January 25 after months of controversies, features Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and is based on the 13th century poem by Malik Mohammad Jayasi.
