4/5 Stars
There is no age of keeping alive the love and romance in a marraige. Once upon a time, when this way of life was quite generic in our society, it suddenly becomes a taboo in our modern society. Badhaai Ho deals with this as the main crux highlighting the hypocrisy and superficiality of our society in the backdrop of a lovable humorous, quirky and realistic tone along with some larger than life performances.

Enter the Kaushiks, a middle class family who have their regular dose of whims and banter. All hell breaks lose when Nakul Kaushik ( Ayushmann Khurrana) learns that his parents ( Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta) are all set to hit the third innings of parenthood. What follows is an aghast reactions from their two sons and the eldest member of the family, the grandmother (Surekha Sikhri) and the boggling curiosity laden questions and reactions from the neighbors and relatives. Writers Shantanu Shrivastav and Akshat Ghildial carve out many endearing as well as amusing moments in an effortless manner. The scenes like the parents revealing their pregnancy to the family and the reaction of the grandmother is phenomenally portrayed. Amongst all the resentment among the children, the lovable relationship between the parents which is showcased by some romantic 90s music is endearing to watch. The dialogues too hit the high note.

The thing which is most applause worthy is that Amit Sharma has given a beautiful leeway to all the senior cast members to steal the show in this one. The performances of both Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao is realistic, effortless and endearing at the same time. Neena Gupta depicts her temperament of motherhood in the most nourishing way but it is Gajraj Rao who steals the show in half of the scenes. He delivers in his full perfection and glory each scene in the film which is simply a visual treat. Ayushmann Khurrana delivers yet another effortless act and proves why he is the master of this genre. Surekha Sikri is another visual delight playing the whimsical grandmother in this one. Sanya Malhotra who plays Ayushmann's lobe interest in the film essays her girl next door characterization in an efficient manner.

The highlight of the film is its honest story and characters. Here instead of the main protagnists, the parents rise to the core and their chemistry looks real and endearing. Tanishk Bagchi and Rochak Kohli do a commendable job with the music too with soundtracks like 'Badhiyaan Tenu', ' Sajan Bari Senti' and 'Nain Na Jodein' which sets the mood right in the plot. A quirky subject but with a valuable and endearing message underneath, the film hits the right chords. There could have been more interplay between the characters but the top notch performances, intricate writing and the impeccable direction makes Badhaai Ho an outstanding 'delivery' on the whole.
