Dance Maestro Ashley Lobo Strikes A Hat-Trick With Zawirowania Dance Theatre!
India's foremost ambassador in the contemporary dance world, Ashley Lobo, has established his foothold internationally with his passion and craft. Having traveled the world showcasing what he does best, his collaboration with Zawirowania Dance Theatre in Poland has come a long way and this year, they will be performing at the International Dance Theatre Festival Zawirowania in Poland. Performing alongside some of the biggest dance companies in the world including Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Dance Entropy, T.H.E Dance Company, Compagnia Atacama, ClairobscurDance and others, Ashley will be carving a strong place for India in the field yet again. This year is the 15th edition of the festival and the jubilee celebration will be based on two themes - The Crossing and Looking for Asylum.

“The Crossing”, which is named after the amalgamation of multiple traditions from around the world, also refers to the collaboration between Zawirowania Dance Theatre and Ashley's company Navdhara India Dance Theatre. In this show, Ashley and Polish choreographers Karolina Kroczak and Elwira Piorun, have choreographed four separate pieces with the two dance companies, with combined finale choreographed by Ashley. Well known for his unique and notable technique of Prana Paint(TM), Lobo has incorporated it throughout his three pieces, exploring movement through yoga, breath, connectivity, and touch. “The Crossing” will be showcased at this esteemed festival amidst some of the stalwarts of the dance world.
"I’m very happy that we have been invited to showcase “The Crossing” at this festival. It’s been a wonderful collaboration with Zawirowania Dance Theatre.", says Ashley Lobo.

The last 3 years have seen Lobo being increasingly invited as a guest choreographer to create works with international dance companies. In 2017, he created a full-length piece with Ballet Chemnitz in Germany. In 2018, he collaborated for the first time withZawirowania Dance Theatre in Poland, and earlier this year, in 2019, he was invited by well-known choreographer and artistic director Mei Hong Lin to create a full-length contemporary piece with the Linz Ballet in Austria, titled “Yama”.  This piece won him rave reviews in the European press and established his reputation even further. Along with choreographing companies overseas, Ashley is also invited regularly to take workshops in his Prana Paint(TM) technique.
