Diljit Dosanjh Backs PM Modi’s Vision to Make India a Global Creative Powerhouse at WAVES Summit 2025
On New Year’s Day, renowned Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the PM’s residence to discuss the ambitious vision of positioning India as the epicenter of global music and entertainment. Their discussion, which has captured widespread attention, was shared through a video on PM Modi’s official YouTube channel, creating significant anticipation for the upcoming WAVES Summit 2025.

Diljit shared his proposal for a global music festival that could highlight India’s rich and diverse talent, drawing parallels to iconic events like Coachella. “Even if we’re sitting at a dhaba in Rajasthan and someone sings melodiously, their art rivals that of professional performers. India has such immense, untapped talent,” he noted, advocating for a platform to bring Indian talent to the global stage.

During the conversation, PM Modi shared his aspirations for the WAVES initiative. “I have a dream,” he stated, elaborating on his long-held vision to make India a global creative hub. “I have been thinking about it for many years, but now I am doing it. (The) WAVES (Summit). This is my proposition. Such a large country and the largest number of films are made in this country,” he said, with Diljit expressing his agreement. The Prime Minister emphasized, “We have the largest creative industry here. So I am creating a big movement called WAVES.”

PM Modi also highlighted his commitment to making this dream a reality, explaining how the WAVES Summit would bring together global creative talent in April 2025. He reflected on a conversation with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, where he spoke of India’s deep-rooted musical traditions, with unique raagas accompanying different parts of the day, from sunrise to sunset. “Now the centre of the world’s creativity will be India,” PM Modi said, as he reassured Diljit that the vision of making India a global musical stage was well underway.

Scheduled for April 2025, the WAVES World Summit aims to position India as a hub for international creativity and collaboration. Modeled on the lines of events like the World Economic Forum in Davos, the summit promises an eclectic blend of music, arts, and cultural dialogues.

PM Modi had first announced the WAVES initiative in his final Mann Ki Baat address of 2024 on December 29, setting the stage for what promises to be a landmark event in India’s cultural journey.
