Jalebi Movie Review: A Tale Of Unrequited Love With A Heart Wrenching Tale But Drag Performances!
Starring : Varun Mitra, Rhea Chakraborty
Directed By : Pushpdeep Bhardwaj
2.5/5 Stars
Sometimes the unfulfilled love becomes the purest of them all, this Pushpdeep Bharadwaj directorial revolves mainly around this crux. Based on the Bengali film 'Prakhtan', it revolves around Dev (Varun Mitra) and Aisha ( Rhea Chakraborty). Their worlds are poles apart but cupid strucks them and they eventually tie the knot. But their fairytale romance abruptly cuts short when reality hits them hard and Aisha realizes that her traditional marital life is not something she is well accustomed for.

The film develops in a flashback from the present which opens in a train journey where the two estranged lovers meet in the most fateful day. Things get further complicated and convoluted when in the present Aisha learns that Dev has a wife (Digangana Suryavanshi) and daughter. The plot introduces other characters as the other passengers but their characterization does not act as a suitable catalyst to the story.

But a grave disappointment which was not expected from a product of Vishesh Films is the soundtrack of the film. The chemistry between the lead pair fails to keep you hooked and does not invoke any emotion. While the plotline is passionate but because of the poor direction and screenplay coupled with bleak performances, the film fails to shine.

Rhea Chakraborty fails to create an impact and struggles too hard. Varun Mitra has a charming screen presence but still has more room to grow. Digangana Suryavanshi had not much to do.

The film turns out to be a melodramatic drag journey which gets even more monotonous in the process. Definitely, this 'jalebi' could have tasted better.
