Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited political drama Emergency has officially received censor clearance and is gearing up for a theatrical release in January 2025. The film delves into the turbulent Emergency period of the 1970s, promising an intense portrayal of one of the most debated chapters in Indian democracy.
The release of Emergency was initially slated for an earlier date, 6th September, 2024 but Kangana Ranaut had to postpone it after the censor board withheld clearance and requested specific changes. Following these adjustments, the movie has finally received certification, and the much-awaited release date of 17th January 2025 has now been officially announced.

Written, directed, and led by Kangana Ranaut herself, Emergency explores the life and tenure of India’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, with Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik bringing depth to the political and personal intricacies of the era.
Produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti, Emergency also features a compelling musical score by Sanchit Balhara and G.V. Prakash Kumar. The screenplay and dialogues, crafted by the renowned Ritesh Shah, aim to highlight the gravity and complexity of this critical period in Indian history.
