3.5/5 Stars

The film has a dynamic drama teacher Murali (Kunal Kapoor) preparing his students for the play, The Merchant Of Venice which is based on the premise of revenge and the complexities of the human mind. This very much, sets the tone of the rest if the film. You soon get geared about the onset of the tension and drama prevailing in the premise of a boarding school where the film is set.

The film revolves around Shay (Ali Haji) who is constantly physically and mentally bullied along with his friends Ganesh (Hardik Thakkar) by his seniors, Baaadal (Shaan Grover) and Arjun (Mohammad Ali Mir). He is also flanked by his friend Pia (Muskkaan Jaferi) who is his close confidante. But soon the bullying takes the place of a more violent and an incessant form of mental and physical torture and the showcasing of a toxic masculinity and a homophobic mentality. This soon leads to some hazardous consequences  in the lives of the protagnists in the film.

Director Vandana Kataria has masterfully showcased the subtle nuances and has brought out the inner turmoil of a bully victim. Some scenarios are too disturbing and vulnerable and will haunt you for their sheer realism. The performances are one of the biggest highlights of the film. Ali Haji sinks deep into the skin of the character while Kunal Kapoor showcases the needed restraint and depth in his character. Other cast members like Muskaan Jaferi, Shaan Grover and Ali Mir are highly convincing on their parts.

The writing by Sonia Bahl, Sunil Drego and Vandana Kataria is at its utmost finnese and brings out the interplay between the characters along with the prevailing tension in the scenario. The music by KC Loy and Shir Sriram gives out the needed drama in the plot. Watch this one for a brutal and hard hitting depiction of realism.
