Rasika Dugal : We Are Living In The Worst Stage Of Freedom Of Speech Right Now!
Rasika Duggal has been garnering lot of praises for her powerful performance as Safiya, Manto's wife in the Nandita Das directorial Manto opposite Nawazuddin Siddique which is based on the life of the controversial writer Saadat Hassan Manto.

Manto often dealt with subjects which no one else during that time even dreamt of dealing with which often bought him under the radar. The film depicts a powerful message facilitating the freedom of speech in a courageous manner. On this occasion, when we asked the actress, what she thinks is the current state of freedom of speech in India, she replied, "I think we are living in the worst stage of the freedom of speech right now. This is one of the main reason why the film is relevant today more than I wish we wouldn't have had to fight for our freedom of speech. But given the current situation we do have to so the film is very relevant today because if we don't start talking about safeguarding our freedom of speech now, there will soon come a time where we will not be able to speak our mind anymore."
The actress further added that, "It is very important that we take Manto as an example of a hero of the free speech and learn from that. We are using the word 'Mantoiyat' everywhere now as that means to find the Manto within you."

Manto also stars Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Tahir Raj Bhasin in pivotal roles and is all set to be released on September 21st.
