Veere Di Wedding Movie Review: Watch The Infectiously Fun Chemistry Between Kareena Kapoor And Her Uber-Cool Girl Gang!
The wait is over! Finally, we get to see Kareena Kapoor Khan back on the silver screen post-pregnancy as  Kalindi Puri in Veere Di Wedding. The all-girl ensemble comedy starring Kareena, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania, directed by Shashanka Ghosh is an upbeat comedy revolving around the lives of four childhood friends. The maker's insistence at not being labeled this movie as a ‘chick flick' was a fresh change to see and as a viewer, you will understand that the makers have actually done justice when it comes to defying the stereotypical view of a chick flick. The movie will definitely appeal to the younger generation, due to the bold sexual innuendos, expletives and witty script writing.

Here's the review of Veere Di Wedding by our expert Priya Prakashan.

The Story

Veere Di Wedding is set against the backdrop of Kalindi’s wedding and how it affects the dynamics of the girl gang's friendship. It begins with four teenagers celebrating the end of their exams which looks a little too forced, but as the girls enter adulthood we get to see their peppy and colorful personalities.  All the four girls Avni (Sonam Kapoor), Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Sakshi (Swara Bhaskar), Meera (Shikha Talsania) are as different as chalk and cheese. Kalindi is commitment phobic and all set to marry Rishab (Sumeet Vyas), Meera is married and has a child, Avni is a career driven woman who’s a romantic at heart, yet unable to find her perfect partner and  Sakshi is a rich spoilt brat struggling with a divorce. Though what holds the movie together is the truly beautiful female companionship and camaraderie and the supporting cast consisting of Rishab’s parents, Kalindi’s gay uncle and his partner and others add drama to this colorful movie.

The four friends are trying to figure out life, relationships and everything in between and they are not afraid to embrace their real self and their vulnerabilities. The film starts off a little too loud, with performances by the actors that do appear less subtle than they are at times. But as the story goes on we get used to them. One thing that works for this movie is the interesting ensemble of the actors. Just like Ghosh's last movie Khoobsurat, the whole look and feel of the movie is very lively. Right from the first look, this movie has managed to awe us with the very glam look. Rhea Kapoor and Ghosh are collaborating for the second time and this time as well, Rhea has done an incredibly amazing job of curating different looks for each protagonist according to their personalities. You will enjoy this as much as you would like watching a saucy sitcom like Sex And The City.

One of the annoying things that would bother you will be the in your face product placement. The story and the twists are not too altering, the first half moves at a quick pace, but the second half drags a little too much.

Performances

Kareena who is making her big comeback gets a lot of screen space to flex her acting prowess and we like seeing the actress in her element. Sonam Kapoor seems really at ease playing her character. Though a lot of people might find Swara Bhaskar's risque act interesting, she came come across a little annoying as she seems to try a little too hard to please. We loved watching the Wake Up Sid actress Shikha Talsania as she was the most exuberant and natural. Apart from the female ensemble, Sumeet Vyas and Vishwas Kinni are wonderful. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sumeet Vyas' on-screen chemistry is quite interesting.

Verdict

The film has lived up to its buzz. This is not a chick flick but you can definitely go with your bunch of girls to watch this fun and sassy movie.
