YRF Announces Mardaani 3: Rani Mukerji Teases a Gritty and High-Octane Thriller

The Mardaani series, a trailblazing female-led franchise in Hindi cinema, has won hearts and accolades for over a decade. Cementing its cult status among cinephiles, Yash Raj Films (YRF) has officially announced the third installment, Mardaani 3, with Rani Mukerji reprising her role as the fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy. 

On the anniversary of Mardaani 2, YRF revealed that the shooting for Mardaani 3 will commence in April 2025. Rani Mukerji, celebrated as one of Indian cinema's finest actors, is the only actress to headline a blockbuster solo-led franchise in Bollywood. 

Promising an intense cinematic experience, Rani revealed that the new installment would surpass its predecessors in terms of thrills and intensity. She said, “When we set out to make Mardaani 3, we were hoping that we find a script that would take the experience of watching a Mardaani franchise film higher. I am really excited about what we have at hand, and I’m only hoping that the audience too feels the same after watching Mardaani 3 in theatres!” 

Acknowledging the love the franchise has garnered, she added, “Mardaani is an extremely loved franchise, and we have a certain responsibility to deliver to the expectation that people have. We will do our best to live up to this. Mardaani 3 is dark, deadly, and brutal. So, I’m intrigued to find out the response of the people towards our film. I hope they shower this film with the same amount of love that they have always given.” 

Aditya Chopra has entrusted two talents from YRF’s creative team to helm Mardaani 3. The script is penned by Aayush Gupta, known for his critically acclaimed work in The Railway Men, a global streaming success praised for its hard-hitting storytelling. Abhiraj Minawala, groomed by YRF and with credits as an Associate Director on major films like War 2 and Tiger 3, will direct the film. His vast experience as an assistant on projects such as Band Baaja Baarat and Sultan underscores his readiness to take the reins of the Mardaani franchise. 

With a compelling team and an intense narrative, Mardaani 3 promises to continue the legacy of this groundbreaking franchise. Fans eagerly await its release to witness Shivani Shivaji Roy's next chapter.
